2025 Catch up

The News section took a hiatus in 2025 but it was such a jam packed year it deserves an update. Here are some of the things that happened in 2025 at the Yack Women's Shed, but I have probably left a few things out!:

Folk Festival Fun

We got into the Folk Festival spirit, with some of our members and Men's Shed members turning blue for the parade, and riding the roller coaster.

Mosaics madness

Our mosaics group has gone from strength to strength during 2025 producing some amazing pieces, including decorating the flower tub outside the YCC office and running a booked out hat workshop in November

YCC 40th anniversary

We helped the YCC celebrate their 40th anniversary in a number of ways. Some of our members, sporting our new purple t shirts, helped serve out the delicious dinner to over 200 people; we featured Penny Perfrement (also a YWS member), the YCC project officer, on our Indigo FM program talking about the YCC and the celebrations; and we donated a magnificent picnic table and bench seats lovingly restored by our Woodys group.

Social fun

We held two lovely social excursion in 2025 - a large group (with some extras) visited the Magic Forest at Stanley followed by lunch at the Stanley Pub, while a smaller group travelled to Bright to watch The Women's Adventure Film and had lunch at the Brewery.

Seniors Festival

Yest again the YWS ran a successful social event during Senior's Festival - a Time Traveller's Trivia competition at the Bottom Pub. Our very own Sheddettes and Friends performed a couple of sets to entertain the punters. A great fun lunch.

Christmas Fair

Of course we held the annual Community Christmas Fair again. A major fundraiser for the YWS, this event also brings the community together and showcases local artisans. KIds are catered for with roaming performers, face painting and of course a visit from the man in the big red suit!

Textiles Tribe

We re-commenced our textiles tribe, who sorted and stored our stash of second hand fabrics, ready for some fabulous projects in 2026; made some crafty bags out of feed bags; held a visible mending workshop.

Field of poppies

Our annual Field of Poppies was created again in 2025 for Remembrance Day with over 1000 poppies 'planted' in the Memorial Gardens

Artist group

Our group of budding Picassos meet every week during school terms and wow, are they producing some amazing paintings.
